An MBA course I took in Paris taught me how to get all members of a team to think along the same lines. At Sunnyland I discovered the power of design and creativity, at Bonduel the opportunities for increased turnover provided by trade marketing, and at Ecover how to realize growth by telling a story differently; and by now making the choice to only contribute to Do Good initiatives, it feels like it’s all coming together, and all previous steps contributed to reaching this point.
I have had the good fortune to work with a very diverse group of people and managers. From die-hard entrepreneurs to men with military discipline (the Cartamundi CEO was also an army colonel) to a manager who believed in people and gave you confidence, and when you were stuck asked you more questions than he ever gave answers. All these experiences have made me better at dealing with people, but have also helped me develop my own style: less hierarchical, to be able to think outside the box, love your brands, work hard, to be very demanding of yourself and to promote results and creativity, to give young people big opportunities.
As an independent entrepreneur, I have been assisting small and medium-sized Do Good businesses in the fields of business development and marketing strategy since 2015. In addition, I help traditional businesses become more purpose-driven in terms of their business or their products. I also invest in Do Good Companies, and assist them both with capital and expertise. At SloGoirle.nl I’m involved in fundraising and public awareness of this charity.
During the first years of my career, I worked at both small and large FMCG businesses in a variety of fields. From innovation, new packaging, repositioning, category management brand building and team building to creating and implementing growth plans. At People Against Dirty I was responsible for Ecover and Method, and experienced how good it felt to grow a purpose-driven business by telling a bigger story with better products to more people at more retailers. The good results I realized won me the Belgian nomination for Marketeer of The Year.
Good Business has become the norm for me. Working in an eco-minded company myself, I have realized there just is no other way. In Generous Minds I find a group of like minded professionals with whom I can make an impact.
I admire especially people that made a big, succcesful company out of one simple socially responsible idea. People like Eric Ryan, or now maybe Elon Musk, or pioneers as the founders of Pymwymic or the guys from Toms.
