Plamen Ivanov
Fundraising Advisor and Start-up Mentor
What I do
I guide founders on their journey from investor readiness to closing successful deals.
About me
My entrepreneurial journey started in 2016 after quitting my job at a large company. After participating in several startup programs and entrepreneurship courses, and exploring various ideas, I started working on my social impact travel startup - a B2B marketplace - in 2018. This brought me back to my home country Bulgaria. The startup failed due to a number of mistakes I made, including not putting together the right team, but most importantly, not raising enough funding to scale and reach the market. With the knowledge and network I gained in this sector, I transformed the business into a travel service/agency, from which I have now (2-3 years later) taken a step back and currently work as a consultant.
I consider myself a generalist and, given my curiosity and strong drive for impact, have always been inspired by companies that have social and environmental impact at their core. While preparing for my next startup and building momentum, I informally helped other startups with their daily challenges. This gave me a lot of satisfaction. Given my broad interests and lack of specialization in one specific sector, I realized that consulting - instead of a new startup - could be a suitable place to continue my career.
The core of my advisory and consulting work now lies with early-stage impact and climate technology startups. I help them with their funding strategy and activities, an area I have specialized in for the past 4+ years due to my own past mistakes.
My advisory services are designed to help startups navigate the full funding cycle. I focus on educating and guiding founders through this process.
In addition to my startup advisory role in fundraising, I also offer mentoring services. I support early-stage founders in unlocking their potential and tackling challenges such as customer acquisition, partner development, co-founder relationships and financial management. Through my mentoring, I use various tactics and tools such as Force Field Analysis, Opposite Planning, Transposing and Mind Mapping. This personalized approach enables founders to overcome obstacles and succeed in their personal and professional entrepreneurial journey.
How I help customers
Preparing companies for investment (objective, financing structure, financial modeling, impact measurement, organization of materials and data) and providing continuous support in fundraising (investor research and identification, matchmaking and warm introductions, facilitating interaction, due diligence process and term sheet review). In addition, I also help to unlock the founder's potential and break through blockages that prevent him/her from achieving their goals.
